Canada Must Demand Ceasefire in Lebanon, Gaza and Israel: Concerned Fredericton citizens to rally this Saturday, August 12

Posted by graham on 8th August 2006

August 8, 2006

Fredericton -
As the Canadian government continues to condone the attacks on the defenceless Lebanese and Palestinian people, citizens across the country including Fredericton will be rallying on Saturday, August 12 to demand that the Harper government take every effort to achieve a ceasefire and an end to the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and Gaza. The Fredericton rally will commence at 1:00pm at City Hall, 397 Queen Street.

“Harper said he supports a ‘measured’ response by Israel in its attack on Lebanon. This has outraged many Canadians who want to see Canada intervene to help stop the attacks on Lebanon’s neighborhoods and vital infrastructure,” stated Tracy Glynn, a rally organizer. “By voting against key UN humanitarian resolutions and putting sanctions on the Palestinian Authority after the Hamas victory, the Harper administration has clearly joined the U.S. and Israel in its aggressive, violent and unjust wars in the Middle East.”

Posted by tracy on 26th June 2006

The Conservation Council of New Brunswick presents…

DR. SEUSS’S THE LORAX

An animated version of Dr. Seuss’s classic book about the environment and capitalistic greed. “Mister! he said with a sawdusty sneeze, I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees. I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues. And I’m asking you, sir, at the top of my lungs –he was very upset as he shouted and puffed– What’s that THING you’ve made out of my Truffula tuft?” -The Lorax.

7:30pm, Monday, June 26
Underground Cafe, 732 Charlotte

Free film showing for children of all ages. 26 minutes. Open discussion follows video presentation.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” -The Lorax.

United Against Atlantica

Posted by Graham on 9th June 2006

The Labour, Student, Social Activist, Environmental, and Civil Society groups are all united against the Atlantica agenda. The agenda of the proponents of Atlantica is seen as little different than that of NAFTA and other so-called “free trade” agreements. These agreements have not helped, but have hindered, the economic and social situation of the people of the Atlantic region. Together we are bringing the Atlantica agenda into public view to counteract the undemocratic and elitist process going on right now at the Trade and Convention Centre in Saint John, New Brunswick.

There are protesters in the streets and conferences going on addressing why working people across the Atlantic region should be opposed to Atlantica. There is something for everyone looking to send our business elite and politicans a message: NO! To Atlantica!

An Opportunity for the People as They Gather on the Streets of Saint John

Posted by Dana on 15th May 2006

CITIZENS’ PRESS! GET YOUR CITIZENS’ PRESS RIGHT HERE! Asaf Rachid has published an editorial on the upcomming Atlantica protest / counter summit. His analysis involves a long term strategy for opposition to global capital. He’s right, we can’t just let this huge gathering be just a huge gathering. It must be a starting point for citizen engagement in our politics. From what I’m hearing so far, with the organizations and ammount of people involed, this could be an event of historic significance. I urge everyone to come out on June 8 - 10th and display your solidarity with others from all over Atlantic Canada.

May Day Rally A Success

Posted by graham on 1st May 2006

–The march was a success. We marched from Fredericton High School all the way to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency building. The march was to show our support and solidarity with the billions of workers around the world and the millions of immigrant workers in the US that are all going to be in the streets today (pictures here). Today is a day of solidarity, justice, and the movement towards an international democratic socialism! Celebration continues of International Workers’ Day!

No One is Illegal March The Sign is Up

By Asaf Rashid: >>
In Fredericton, there has no group any time within memory that has hoisted up the slogan, “No One is Illegal”, no group that has taken a stand definalty in public to challenge deportations, detentions and violations of basic rights of imigrants, refugees and all non-status people. The hope is that with today’s action, there are the beginnings of a No One is Illegal or Solidarity Across Borders in Fredericton.
