Nonsense. If it were up to “corporate greed” there would be no receipts anywhere. There is nothing I despise more than having to both print and collect this sea of paper that everyone who tries to run a business has to deal with. There are two things forcing me to do deal with paper receipts:
1. It’s illegal for me not to give them to clients.
2. If i cannot produce such an original slip of paper, then nothing, not even electronic bank records, or physical goods, are sufficient evidence for government auditors. If there is not receipt, then the purchase or sale might as well not have occurred.
There is nothing in this world more annoying and ridiculously useless than having low-skilled, low-paid people have to constantly fumble with receipt printers. Thermal paper is a way to alleviate some of the constant disrepair and (What I imagine) millions of paper cuts.
It would neither be necessary, nor even be thought useful, were it not required by government. If you want to blame someone, point your finger at the various ministries of revenue.
