Opposition NDP slams Tory politician for ‘sexist’ remarks on blog

“The blog posting was framed as a bit of advice for girls that suggested “men are attracted to smiles, so smile and don’t give me any of that equal stuff. If you want equal, it comes in little packages at Starbucks.” The blog also said there’s “nothing that a man wants less than a woman scowling because he thinks he is going to get shit for something and he has no idea what.””
And Doug Elniski insists he’s not sexist, he said he has three adult daughters and most of the key workers on his election campaign were women, then he clarifies his position with this gem: “If I were sexist I think I would certainly know about it by now.“

He can apologize all he wants- that doesn’t change the fact that he thought to write it in the first place, and thought it would illustrate his point effectively. He thought it was fine to put those ideas out into the public domain. I don’t care how many daughters he has- like his Twitter postings during the Edmonton Pride parade, he later claims no disrespect, but the ideas and sentiment are certainly there. This guy should be tossed out of government at the earliest opportunity.

The dumb-ass should have just said “be nice to people” if the message he wanted to get across was “be nice to people”… Stuff like this (and the American Senate–”the most deliberative body on the planet”) that makes me think democracy isn’t always a good idea.
