–Carried out by what the right-wing in the US calls its electoral base. The far right can only be opposed with more education, more social services, and more community strength.

This is sincerely alarming. I’m currently reading Hannah Arendt’s Eichmann in Jerusalem: a report on the banality of evil. The economy is collapsing, and Muslims are being blamed for the ills of society.
What is to be done? We can see what is going on but are unable to stop the horrendous momentum of yet another modern genocide. When I was younger I read about the atrocities of the holocaust I wondered how people allowed it to happen. Now I am a prisoner in my own moment of history, unable to react to illegal detainment, systematic torture, wars of aggression, mass killings of civilians, and racist internal policy.
I don’t think that the anti-Muslim attitude in Canada is as entrenched in society as was anti-Semitism in Europe pre-WWII. The vast majority of Canadians oppose the war in Iraq, and the majority oppose the war in Afghanistan too. I think there is more hope now that we can stop this from happening, but we need to take real action. The ABC vote will get rid of Harper, but the Liberals put us in Afghanistan in the first place. We need more people to take an active role in education and organization against all aspects of our war of terror.
We also need to elect the NDP as they are only anti-war voice and the only party that can possible take us through a depression without relying on imperialism and racial scapegoating. The Liberals and Conservatives have terrifying policies that align with the US empire.
