Widening gap between rich and poor in Atlantic Canada: report

Posted by Graham on September 5th, 2008

–And we owe it all to the backwards economic policies of our current provincial and federal governments who continue to take money and services away from those that need them and give tax breaks and give-a-ways to their corporate masters. We need to start electing people that represent our interests or it will just continue to get worse.

One Response to “Widening gap between rich and poor in Atlantic Canada: report

  1. M Says:

Canada needs to elect people who represent “them” - we elect people to represent us “we think” but when the “representative” gets into power what happens they “represent” themselves or worst their “party!”. We live in the 21st century - we need more responsive government who respond to the voters not just at election tine - the idea of selecting an “individual” who somehow represents us all for four years (give or take depending on the government’s will is archaic) - we need “new” - “progressive” - I am not sure of the term but something that makes the “voters” part of the process. In my view (yep my opinion!!) we need to move forward the democratic system has not evolved for 100 years - we are still in a 20th century mode -but guess what the year is 2008 and we are in the 21st century.

Most people will not agree but in my opinion the democratic movement, the labour movement and the left need to move forward - develop policies, programs and ideologies that embrace a 21st century workforce (the workers need and must be part of the process whether by formalized union or ideology) - think about it without the people who work in the system there would be no system.

I hope the above will engage others in thinking about our current democratic process etc. and start a debate not just on Leftnews (a great starting point) but also within the political realm as we enter an election in Canada.
