“The UN special rapporteur on the right to food, Jean Ziegler, said he feared biofuels would bring more hunger.”
Make no mistake about it, biofuels are not the answer to the worlds energy and environmental woes.

“[T]he problem for Horowitz is one of supply. The left in America is really in very poor shape: near zero Commies, and really only a sprinkling of radical black profs, militant Lesbians and kindred antinomians to beat up on. The notion of pinkoes in the media is laughable to all except the fearful imaginations of millionaires like Scaife. Hence the spotlight on Islamo-Fascism … [as such] Horowitz is probably the best organizer the left has these days.”

“In this case, charges are brought under the 1984 Convention against Torture, ratified by both the United States and France, which has been used in France in previous torture cases.”

Actually: “Correa said Washington must let him open a military base in Miami if the United States wants to keep using an air base on Ecuador’s Pacific coast … “If there’s no problem having foreign soldiers on a country’s soil, surely they’ll let us have an Ecuadorean base in the United States.”"
A reasonable statement by any measure.

Collective punishment is against international law. The fact that the order is coming from the Israeli Labor Party speaks volumes of the country’s political spectrum.

–The NDP continue to try to highlight the plight of the people of Afghanistan under military occupation. Malalai Joya has been suspended from the Afghan parliament in a completely undemocratic and oppressive way. Her life is in constant danger as she continues to speak up for the oppressed in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Government of Canada continues to try to hide the plight of the people of Afghanistan from the people of Canada. We must do our best to spread the word.

–Because liberal orthodoxy does not have any room for analysis, it is rather hard to actually implement processes that cause shifts in the way that people perceive intelligence and race. As thinking people, we must come to critically evaluate the stereotypes that result from the current social conditions. To actually change the social conditions, we must fight against the system that supports the maintenance of those conditions.

–Bush continues to spread misinformation to fuel animosity which maintains support for the Cuba embargo. We must support the self determination of the people of Cuba. This means supporting the revolutionary process of the people of Cuba and opposing US imperialism in the region.

–Of-course, you cannot have a system that meet the needs of the people if you do not meet the needs of the workers who provide the service in the first place.

–What I cannot understand is how anyone thinks that the private monopoly system can provide better child care than the government. The difference between government services and private services are vast. Government services can be affected by democratic processes, are non-profit, have direct oversight by commissioners that are accountable to the people, and are generally more efficient than the private sector in providing large public services. We must fight for a public child care system if we are going to help the working people of this country gain from the prosperity they create.

–Someone has to explain to me how it is that the people of Iran are being helped to increase their control over their government through the US imposing sanctions… or is it, as I think it is, just a ploy to reduce Iran’s capacity to defend itself from US imperialist aims.

“Climate change” as an argument for stopping African organic farmers exporting to UK when their produce is only 1% of the two billion pounds organic market in the UK- a market that is growing by leap and bounds -the report is from The Soil Association (a charity?) which owns the trading company that represents and approx 80% of the certified UK organic farmers.

After three years of waiting, the government now has confirmation that the area of contamination identified by the Conservation Council was correct. “The government now needs to order the smelter to clean up all the contaminated properties as soon as possible. People have been living in a poisoned environment long enough and more soil sampling is not going to change that reality.” -Inka Milewski.

–Some not so nice words about Benazir Bhutto’s return to Pakistan. The fact that she supports the continued occupation of Afghanistan by Canadian troops means that it is impossible for academics and the Left to support her. Have a read of why.

–It is amazing to see the way unions can use their might for social good. The use of pension funds for socially responsible investments that help the lives of the oppressed in Canada. All Public Service Alliance of Canada members should be proud. Support your local union.
