Some US diplomats angry over Iraq posts | Yahoo News

Posted by Faiz on 31st October 2007

“”Who will raise our children if we are dead or seriously wounded?” … Under the new order, 200 to 300 diplomats have been identified as “prime candidates” to fill 48 vacancies that will open next year at the Baghdad embassy and in the provinces. Those notified that they have been selected for a one-year posting will have 10 days to accept or reject the position. If not enough say yes, some will be ordered to go.”

A very interesting situation is developing from within the US war machine. I wonder if we will soon read of “conscientious objections” coming from the diplomatic core.

globeandmail.com: No place for phony, defanged unions

Posted by Graham on 30th October 2007

–Ed Broadbent comes out swinging against the CAW and their ridiculous Magna deal. The ability to strike is fundamental to bargaining and are a fundamental, constitutionally protected right in Canada. No union should be able to give that right up for its members.

Dual Power in the Venezuelan Revolution George Ciccariello-Maher | Monthly Review

Posted by Graham on 30th October 2007

–Dual power in Venezuela… this is an extremely important concept to understand if one is to understand transition theory. Without transition theory there is no way to navigate a change from this system to one that is more equitable and controlled by the people.

The Progressive Economics Forum » Alberta’s Compromised Compromise on Royalties

Posted by Graham on 30th October 2007

–Some say that Alberta is acting like Venezuela in demanding more revenue from the natural resources extracted from their soil. If only this actually were the case… The social programs that are offered in Alberta are minimal and the fact of the matter is that much of the oil is coming from Aboriginal land with those communities not reaping any benefits or having any control over the process.
