“Might Afghanistan been made more secure by a limited Marshall-Plan style intervention? It is, of course, possible that the construction of free schools and hospitals, subsidised homes for the poor and the rebuilding of the social infrastructure that was destroyed after the withdrawal of Soviet troops in 1989 could have stabilised the country … this would have required a strong state and a different world order. Only a slightly crazed utopian could have expected NATO countries, busy privatising and deregulating their own countries, to embark on enlightened social experiments abroad.”

–He says things like this but then backs the move to withdraw the CAW’s support for the labour party here in Canada. Unions must be independent, internationalist, united in struggle, and demanding political power towards those ends for all working people. Anything else is regressive.

–Of-course it is a cover for privatisation… it is also a cover for exploitation and the increasing of profits by driving down wages.

–A “Stop Brown” candidate would be a great thing for the Labour Party in Britain. Neo-Labour’s days are numbered… hopefully. People need to get back in charge of their government.

–A rather interesting piece from Eva Golinger about progress on the evironmental front from Venezuela. There is a push to transform the Venezuelan economy and infrastructure towards green energy and public transit alternatives… not to mention a whole lot else. What other countries in the world are doing this? Only Cuba.

–We should not be sending people who are trained in peacekeeping into combat zones. It is not what people signed up to be reservists for and it is not what the majority of the people in Canada want from their military. Troops out now, end US imperialism.

–The Conservatives in the US are in retrenchment mode. The Left must organise if it is going to stop this kind of regressive and anti-democratic move.

–Brown is no better than Blair. We need a progressive voice in Britain if we are going to get the crazies out of power.

–This should scare everyone. The only reason that this is happening is because the neo-labour crowd seem to continue to push regressive policy. Labour must be taken back or destroyed through a mass movement of organised labour making a new labour party that will actually stand on progressive politics. Enough is enough, demand accountability and democracy now.

Fuelling fear in Canada
Recent attempts to paint the rejection of multiculturalism as a kind of concern for visible minorities in Canada should be seen for what they are: a Canadian mask on an alarming global trend toward fear-mongering and racism.news - everyone’s a critic

–Food production in the US will crash if this is not stopped. Most people do not realise that all their plants that produce fruits and grains have to be pollinated by insects for them to produce the parts that we eat. Bees are extremely important in this process. However, most food is pollinated by solitary bees and there is no indication that this article includes those. If it does then we have a very serious problem.

–Yet another reason why private colleges can cost the tax-payer more than state funded colleges. Tuition should be free for all those finding training and education and the law should protect citizens from these kinds of institutions that exist now.

–The problem is that Flaherty is blinded by the idiocy of Conservative style economics. It is much like their method of dealing with democracy and the global warming… they pretend that anything that gets in the way of their policy doesn’t exist.

–Ideologues run the US… heck, they run most of the right-wing countries around the world. It should frustrate the majority of the people in the world that the people that have the most power do things based on the interests of the wealthy few or for obscured religious reasons.
