Tories shutting down Status of Women offices

I posted this on the feminist reading group blog, but i’m going to post here as well. 2 related news stories, both detrimental to the status of women.
Women are not as ‘equal’ as some would have us believe. Please see news story below.

I run this part of the trail regularly. A few years ago a woman was killed on this ‘public’ trail and now another woman is openly assaulted in the middle of the day (not that it should matter). Now, I no longer feel safe on this publically maintained trail, am I not a full citizen?
Women are not as ‘equal’ or as ‘free’ when their freedom of movement is restricted due to threat of potential violence against them based on their sex.
The cuts to the Status of Women Canada should be reversed and more money infused into institutions with mandates to end sex-related violence.
