–The WSWS takes an indepth look at the ongoing transit strike in NY. The news last night was funny. The only person that the CBC could find to say a nasty thing about the strike was a tourist. The people of NY are kind but resilient. They also have a keen sense of when they or others are getting a bad deal. Join with the rest of the working people of New York and support the strike!

–I think that we have already seen what Bush is like but this takes the cake. The news media should be reacting to this much more strongly than they are. The idea that it is Anti-American to point out when the government is going beyond the law is absurd in the extreme. The US is heading even farther down a bad road.

–Buying this kind of favour with Colombia might work out now but the people of Venezuela will have to keep an eye on this relationship.

–CUPE does a rundown onthe Employment Isurance payouts by workers. They pay and pay and pay and get little in return. If the unemployed do not get the Employment Isurance that they are paying into then who does?

–Voting must be free and for all or there is not point in the vote. Just because you do not like who is going to be elected does not mean that the state can stop the voting in certain places. This is unacceptable.

–The Independent says it right about Iraq… they just leave out the obvious reasons… The first line reads “Iraq is disintegrating”…

–Rational people finally win one in Kansas. However, to claim that this is the end of this is a mistake.

–If the workers are not happy with the contract then they should send in a counter proposal and continue the strike… which is exactly what they have done. Support the workers.

–The CBC actually got this right last night. They did an indepth (sort of) analysis of the voting in Toronto and basically said that Layton was right to say that strategic voting in Toronto means voting for the NDP.

–All strikes are strikes for every worker. This is no exception. New York transit workers are some of the most hardened in the world. This is going to be good fight and it is one that is important for all workers in the US. It is a fight for the right to strike as much as it is a fight for fair wages. Have a read from this union positive piece from the NY Daily News. Support the workers! Support the right to stike! More here and a great article by Juan Gonzalez of NY Daily News and Democracy Now! here.

–A word from Lenin’s Tomb. We need to watch this very closely. The workers of New York back the transit strike almost completely. Some good comment here as well as a link to the Reuters story on the strike.

–A very interesting article coming from Douglas Ireland today. This is about anti-Semitism versus critiques of Zionism. Have a read of the history of Jewish intelectuals that fall prey to the nationalists’ rhetoric. We should support all socialist analyses of the Jewish state and maintain the struggle against nationalism. It is a fine line but it is one we must walk if we are to fight for the rights of all people.
