–Right… that’s what we need. More military presence in cities. There is a reason that the military should not be in cities and it has a lot to do with the power of the state. The last thing we want in our major cities is a military force able to be used against the masses at the whim of some politician.

–Doug Ireland has an interesting story of how the people on the right-wing in the US seem to not want to look after their soldiers. I wonder how the people that are dying in Iraq for an imperial war feel about this?

–Another jab at the Green Party in Canada from Murray Dobbin. I agree with most of what is said about the Greens in this article. They are not worth your vote.

–It appears that the leaders of the major political parties have missed the point: that gun violence is a social problem. Tougher gun laws and longer sentences won’t change a thing!

–The public should find this totally unacceptable. We should have open books and workers and scientists at the NB Power should have input into how the public company operates.

–Wouldn’t this be something!?! Two central business cities brought to a halt by strike action because the state is trying to cut costs at the expense of workers. In London it is cutting of jobs and in New York it is gaining back of benefits given up to help the NY economy. Here is the news release from the Transport Union explaining their reasons for the New Year’s Eve Strike. Support the workers!

–There is no way workers should put up with the increase in working years before they get a pension. Just because we are living longer does not mean that we should be working longer as well. What is the point of putting money into prolonging life if the capitalists just demand that we work more for less and cannot enjoy the added years?
