–The end of the Left in Germany? There is no way that the Social Democratic Party of Germany can at all call itself a follower of the Socialist International. There is nothing in this move that is inline with the interests of the working people of Germany.

As the title indiciates, the ICL-FI examines the London terror bombings and proposes a way forward. All US/British troops out of Iraq now! Down with the racist “war on terror”! Defend Muslims against Labour’s racist witch hunt! Full citizenship rights for all immigrants! No deportations! For trade union/minority mobilisations against fascist terror! “We seek to forge a multiethnic revolutionary workers party which can take this power forward to victory through proletarian socialist revolution which alone can lay the material basis for ending racism, oppression, exploitation and war.”

–A call to pull out the troops from the Marxists of the IMT. This is not a new call but it is pretty specific in analysis. The situation in Iraq is bad and getting horrible.

–Corporate welfare is excessive in Canada. If the state is spending this much to keep private companies afloat then why don’t we just nationalize them. Then, at least, some of the money will stay in government for more social programmes.

–The governments of Latin America are all about talking tough with the people and saying they will stand up to the IMF and “Neo-Liberalism”. The problem is that they never do. Have a read.

–Does anyone really still think that Blair is pro-labour or left leaning at all? Have a listen to his speech to the Neo Labour Party and his horrible twisting of words.

–The state in Sri Lanka is not happy about some film-makers making a documentary that is critical of the state. The truth about what is happening in Sri Lanka is important for not only us but the Sri Lankans themselves…

–A little more about Robert Fisk not being let into the US. It seems that he did not have the “latest” British passport that has all your biometrics on it. The point here is that the boarder people have more reasons than ever to not let you into the country. The system does not work if internationally recognizable people are not let into the US because their passport does not have a retinal scan on it.

–Dear Kitty does a rundown of the UK SAS in Basra and what exactly was going on. This is not in the corporate news here at all but it shows exactly how things are going in Iraq.

–A quick look at the situation in Alberta and New Orleans. There are some questions that need to be asked about how we deal with oil production and who does the controling.

–We need more than just questioning the lockout. We need outright denouncing of the lockout.

–This might be an interesting turn of events. The CBC workers might stop the PM from going to the Governor General’s swearing in. Seeme like a good move to me.

–Here is the basic news release from the Canadian Auto Workers union on their upcoming deal with GM. It does not look good for the size of the labour force at these plants. Unionization of Japanese and Korean car plants is the only way (other than nationalization) to keep the labour contracts that we have now.

–A risk to NAFTA… HA! That is funny. NAFTA should be abolished. It does nothing for Canadian working people and it does nothing to help Mexican working people. On top of that it removes parts of Canadian sovereignty that we need to stop sliding down the same hole as the US.

This short article by the ICL-FI extracts the lessons of the 1972 Québec General Strike and expounds a position beyond mere support for the right to self-determination for the oppressed nation of Québec. In 1995, due to an intensive investigation of the question, the Spartacists resolved to advocate the independence of Québec! This very bold and defining position sets them apart from other Trotskyist organizations. Have a read!
