Martin defends social spending spree but vows no return to days of deficits - Yahoo! News
–For you that are wondering if the Liberal government is on the side of business or the people then look no further. “The Dark Side” is the side with social spending and not tax cuts…

CBC News: Martin to offer modest aid package to Abbas
–Canada should be involved in the Peace Process but we should not just be led around by the US. I wish they would tell the details of the aid package.

“With the greatest interest and with never slackening attention I read John Reed’s book, Ten Days that Shook the World. Unreservedly do I recommend it to the workers of the world. Here is a book which I should like to see published in millions of copies and translated into all languages. It gives a truthful and most vivid exposition of the events so significant to the comprehension of what really is the Proletarian Revolution and the Dictatorship of the Proletariat. These problems are widely discussed, but before one can accept or reject these ideas, he must understand the full significance of his decision. John Reed’s book will undoubtedly help to clear this question, which is the fundamental problem of the international labor movement.” - V. I. Lenin

CBC New Brunswick - Military making pitch to aboriginal youth
–This is ridiculous. We should be putting money into social programmes and repealing discriminitory laws not trying to develop an army of disenfranchised minorities… this is a dirty move that is reserved for the US.

NDP considering offer to keep Liberals afloat for longer period - Yahoo! News
–Sucking consessions out of the Liberals seems like a good idea to me… So long as the NDP do not form a coalition government.

ZNet |Terror War | What Really Happened at Guantanamo Bay?
–The torture scandal is the latest focal point of the war against the right-wing in the US. I still do not understand how people can still feel that the people in power in that country (and this one) do not have everyone’s best interests at heart.

In the summer of 2003 an exceptional heat wave led to the death of about 15,000 people in France, most of them elderly, and most living alone. The government had done nothing to anticipate the danger, and when disaster struck it failed to respond. In the aftermath, Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin declared that workers would have to give up their Monday Pentecost holiday. They would work and the additional taxes employers paid for the day’s production would go to a fund to help the elderly. In fact, it was nothing but a pretext, aiming at removing one of the 11 paid holidays all workers in France are entitled to. The French government did not quite get its way, however.

CBC New Brunswick - UNB students upset by new $175 fee
–Yet another indication that the Student Union at UNB is failing the interests of the students. These “hidden” tuition increases are not to be tolerated. The University should open its books and show the public where this money could be taken from other wise… perhaps the new “administrative” positions at the top of the bureaucracy.

rabble news - everyone’s a critic: Quebec separation was not laid to rest in 1995
–English Canada has got to start waking up to the realities within Quebec. The left (NDP included) have got to start making sure that the people across the country are paying attention and realise what is really going on. If the people of Canada support democracy then they must support the right of Quebec to self determination. The NDP must do this and at the same time build a cross boarder coalition within the unions to fight the right wing nationalists both within and outside Quebec.

U.S.: New Environmentalism, Or Backdoor to Nuclear Power?
–New focus on nuclear power? The environmental groups are making an alliance with the wrong side. The neoconservatives are not the people that have the environment at heart. They should be looking left.
