Existentialism is one of the most influencial philosophical currents of our day. This piece, by Sartre, is an attempt to “offer a defence of existentialism against several reproaches that have been laid against it.” Some of you may find this appealing, others not. Either way, it is, next to post-modernism, the quintessential philosophy of the late-modern period. In the words of a much respected comrade (and here, I agree wholeheartedly), existentialism is an adolescent response to capitalism in its geriatric stage.

–A little look at the so-called Socialist Party in France and how it seems to back a capitalist Europe by calling for a yes vote on the constitution. Most of the party members voted no. That should give clear indication that the party is on the wrong side.
