Boycott Israel?
–Some information on the boycott of Israel universities and other institutions. There is a breadth of opinion here for those interested in what it is all about. I have to side on the anti-boycott end. I do not see what effect it can have but the isolation of those pushing for change.

U.N. Seeks to Blunt U.S. Attacks
–The UN is doing all it can to stop the effects of the US attack on it. The international community and the media should be stepping up to defend the bogus allegations.

Rice seeks Latam democracy drive
–This is getting silly. Why isn’t the press rolling around on the floor laughing at this? The US administration is the last organization to start lecturing populist countries about democracy.

Russian youth group vows to name fascists in schools
–This does not look good from where I am standing. I hate fascism with a passion but I am unsure what a state sponsored thug group is going to do but drive them underground and increase recuitment. We have seen this before. The best way to fight fascist propaganda is with real social initiatives and real knowledge… not street gangs.

After a lifetime of work, Mexico City’s elderly prostitutes find shelter
–It is nice to see something of a social programme coming out of Mexico for the prostitutes. Efforts should be made here as well.

Independent MPs poised for key role
–The independents hold the cards for the federal government. Too many right-wingers in the independents section… the question is: Can you actually reject party politics?

Poll says sovereignty support rising in Quebec
–This is not a good sign for Canada. How is Canada going to fight this one… should we? There is something to be said by trying to address Quebecs issues in a real way then fighting the Bloc’s nationalist propaganda with federalist propaganda.

PM shells out $4.6B for NDP’s support
–The NDP have got something for the environment and the poor but not much and not what they were asking for. I still think that this is a good place to start from going into the elections for the NDP. It may not go through but there is a sense that they tried to govern.

–Telus implements ‘lockout measures’ against its largest union: If a union ever needed support it’s this one. This kind of action is unacceptable. The corporation should not be able to punish the union members for demanding their fair share.

http://www.canada.com/edmonton/edmontonjournal/news/
–Offer sparks union outrage. Telus has really angered its unionized employees. Unfair labour practices abound.

–CEGEP teachers have walked off the job in Montreal. There is a lot of this going on at the moment. In Quebec it is happening because the governmnet is in a tight spot and because of the history of cutting back on social services that has happened there.

http://action.web.ca/
–Student grants seem to be going to “politically” sensitive places instead of being spread across the country fairly. I would say that this is something to get upset about if you are a student.

http://nb.cbc.ca/regional/
– Gay couples fight for N.B. rights: It is too bad that the minority government is going to fall and that all these gay rights bills will fall with it. It means going to the courts. The question is: How progressive is the NB court system? Last time I checked it was a little to the right.

–The Oblivious Right. Paul Krugman
(that bastion of “liberal” thought at the NYT) takes aim at the (un)reality that the Administration is in.

–Moving closer to U.S. promotes war, not peace:by Linda McQuaig: Yes it is true that while all this silliness about the “sponsorship scandal” is going on the country is being sold to the Americans.

NDP: the level-headed party in the circus
–The NDP have always been the level-headed party at the national level. They are the only one that actually try to do what the people want instead of the small group of corporate executives and the crazy religious heads want.

DEVELOPMENT: Sugar Can Mean Life to Poor Countries
–Right, cause it worked last time… It would be a help if the world let some poor countries do better, but then they would be fighting each other for the lowest price. What needs to happen is for the US and Europe to stop interfering.

News: US prepares for nuclear stand-off with Pyongyang
–Yippee… nuclear war is just around the corner. Are there any rational people within the international governing bodies? Is there anyone that can speak some sense into the US administration? Doubtful.

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Putin bangs drum for Russia’s civilising mission
–I love the hypocricy in Russia sometimes. It is always as good as the stuff that comes out of the US… it is just a little more edgy. The State will crack down on revolutionaries… that’s a new one. HA!
