–Robert Fisk talks about the changes in the Middle East since the war. It seems that the violence is spreading instead of being controlled.

rabble news - everyone’s a critic:
Why doesn’t Canada join the European Union?
–I hear this every so often. I am not sure what is different about the EU’s plans and the US’ plans but I do know that the problem with this idea is that Europe is so far away.

rabble news - everyone’s a critic: Intergenerational theft: The Quebec student strike action deserves widespread study and emulation.
–This is one of the least reported stories in Canada right now. Duncan Cameron talks about the strike action in Quebec and asks why all students are not striking along with their peers. This is something that we can have an effect on. The students need to be told that they do not have to have these insane debts and that they should not have these insane debts.

POLITICS: EU Decision to Delay China Arms Sales Big Win for Bush
–The EU have given in to US demands that it does not do arms trading with China. What I cannot understand is why China wants to buy weapons from anyone. The country will just design them and make them in-house. The US cannot have it both ways. Opening up to trade and boosting the economy of China is going to amount to the same as trading weapons technology to China. The reasons they have given the EU not to trade should apply to the US as well.

BBC NEWS | Health | Europe and Africa warned over TB
–TB is on the rise because AIDS is on the rise. We, as a world, need to address this problem much more quickly than we are. There is too much opposition to treatment from rich sources, the system of care needs to be given back to those who need the care.

BBC NEWS | Americas | US concern over Venezuela rifles
–Rummy is trying to stir it up with Brazil and Venezuela again. What is Venezuela going to do with rifles? Probably give them to their military. It is not as if they are some rouge state going around invading other countries. They have a right to a military just like any other peaceful country.

BBC NEWS | UK | Politics | Straw to face war advice critics
–The war in Iraq was illegal. The people all know it was. The lawyers know it was illegal. There is no question that the lawyer for the government of the UK (who said that is was illegal and then 10 days later said it was legal) came under pressure from the Blair government to change his mind.

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Chirac takes aim at EU liberals in race to win yes vote
–The question is: which side of the isle will Chirac land on. If he is against the liberals then he has got to pick a real reason for it. Protectionism is only to be tolerated if the choice/decision to open up markets does not rest with the people in the country. This may be the case in France and the EU.

Guardian Unlimited | The Guardian | Kyrgyz protesters storm government compound
–More “flaeed elections” and protests? I am not sure that if there was massive unrest that only 1000 people would show up. This country is not exactly free to choose its leader with so many superpowers going after its resources.

–The CN workers are up to strike. These statements by the company are funny and sad. How can a company maintain safety levels when most of its workers are not maintaining safety?

ModBlog - Red Bewtween the Lines: 6.1% of Alberta construction workers unemployed
Figures contradict Conservative position on skilled tradespeople
–The real numbers seem to contradict the Alberta Conservative’s idea that there are not enough trades people in the province to work the construction jobs. If there are unemployed workers then why go outside the province?
