ZNet |2004 Election | Hundreds Protest Starbucks Union-Busting Efforts; Organizers Arrested
–Starbucks is in trouble over Union busting. Now there is another reason to avoid the bad coffee at Starbucks. The coffee drinkers should demand that the coffee they get is fair and the people that are making it for them are fairly treated.

maisonneuve :: eclectic curiosity
–Media Scout makes the best point about Parrish and points to the Globe for doing a very poor job covering the issue. If any one read the Globe’s article on why we need missile defence then you should know that it is not worth the paper it is written on.

CANADA: Bird Flu Defeated - At High Cost
–This article raises the question of whether it was factory farming that lead to the dangers from bird flu and not the actual flu itself. If we were not using factory farming would the bird flu even had the potential to destroy the industry and would it be as much of a concern for public safety? We have not seen the right questions being raised in the corporate media over the issue of factory farming.

POLITICS: U.N. Rejects Private Peacekeepers
–It is a no brainer that the UN would reject private peacekeepers. There is no oversight to private for-profit armies. There is no excuse for people making money off war.

Economist.com | The Buttonwood column
–A look at teh American Economy and why it is not doing as well as some people think it is. This view is from the economic right so at the end it says that it is OK that the economy is not doing well because when you have faith in the market you are always thinking of the better times ahead…. However, the better times are never for the poor, labour, or the student population, but for the investor. Have a read.

Yahoo! News - Green Party leader defeats challengers who say he’s too conservative
–This is rich. Harris has won a within parry vote to stay leader of the Greens in Canada. The message is that the people who are supporting the Green Party in Canada should be people from the right not the Left and that the people who were in the Greens that care about Labour and care about the environment need to join the NDP. The NDP has a much better and much more sound approach to the environment than the Greens.

CBC News: Parrish sticks by ‘idiot’ comment
–Good for Parrish. She has hit it on the head. We do not elect our MPs to sit quiet, we elect them to shout for us. Other MPs should be joining in! The missle shield is not something that can be discussed in a civilized way because the plan is to wage war against civilization. We need to express our outrage and back up Parrish. She is not the only one who thinks this plan is idiotic!

CBC News: 40 per cent of world’s population has no basic sanitation: WHO
–These are not new figures but I am glad that when they are released by the WHO they make at least the CBC. I think that the people in the west really do not know how bad it is and what really needs to happen in these countries to stop the people from being subjugated. Development is only part of the solution. There need to be solidarity and help.

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Leaders call for a peaceful intifada
–The Palestinians should take some game plans of the Left in their struggle for the right to exist. Mass peacful protests as well as demanding a fair government system and working in that system using the pressures from the people in the street is the best way to move the country forward. Armed conflict has not worked it is time to try something else.

BBC NEWS | Programmes | From Our Own Correspondent | Will Canada introduce Sharia law?
–We are not getting this in our national news but here it is on the BBC. It is an interesting concept and Canada is the right place for it to be examined in all detail. So long as Sharia Law cannot surpass those of the State and is implimented in such a way so as to not suppress any human rights then I am fine with it. Of-course one has to wonder how any religious law could be implimented without suppressing some human rights…
